If you are using prescription HGH it is very important that you know how and where that HGH is being obtained and that both you, and your doctor, are obtaining it legally. That's because the improper distribution of HGH is a U.S. federal offense which carries some significant penalties.

These laws are supported by various parts of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and resulted from investigations indicating that people were distributing human growth hormone, a prescription drug, without a prescription. According to law human growth hormone can only be legally administered by a physician as part of the treatment of a disorder for which administration of HGH was indicated. Use of the drug for any other purpose is illegal.

If a person is found to be administering prescription HGH with an intent to defraud or mislead, they are subject to a minimum of three years imprisonment in a federal prison. As the proliferation of illegal prescription HGH increased Congress passed two additional laws that were designed to further restrict illegal use and, especially, illegal use by athletes. Congress added wording to include steroids as well. The first Congressional action was an amendment to the 1988 Anti-Drug Abuse Amendments which became effective on November 18, 1988. The intent here was to make the distribution of anabolic steroids and HGH illegal unless it was both done by order of a licensed physician, and it was for the purpose of treating a disease. Pub.L. No. 100-690, § 2403.

Congress added additional teeth to the law when it made additional changes that were designed to stop illegal trafficking in anabolic steroids and human growth hormone which allowed the government to seek forfeiture of property for felony crimes involving anabolic steroids or human growth hormone. In 1990, Congress took additional action as the misuse of HGH and steroids continued by making changes to the Anabolic Steroids Control Act, Pub.L. No. 101-647, title XIX, §§ 1901-05. These changes deal with the distribution of anabolic steroids and human growth hormone by reclassifying them as Schedule III controlled substances, effective February 27, 1991.

The act calls for five-year federal prison sentences for persons convicted of "the distribution and possession, with intent to distribute, of human growth hormone for any use other than the treatment of a disease or other recognized medical condition, where such use has been authorized by the Secretary of Human Services, and pursuant to the order of a physician". This act also allowed for forfeiture of property for those convicted. The amendment went on to provide for a prison term of 10 years if human growth hormone is distributed to individuals under the age of 18 in violation of the terms of the law.

Usually the federal government requires proof of interstate distribution of a drug before it becomes involved. Non-interstate trafficking is generally considered to be a state-level law enforcement issue. The laws regarding steroids and HGH are a notable exception to this policy in that the federal government is only required to prove "knowing distribution" or "knowing possession with intent to distribute, and not actual interstate distribution. This makes prosecuting non-physicians for distributing human growth hormone as relatively simple as it is to prosecute any other type of violation under the Controlled Substances Act.

Since the only two authorized manufacturers and distributors of human growth hormone are Genentech and Eli Lilly, who both have safeguards in place that prevent distribution to anyone other than physicians and hospital pharmacies (not neighborhood pharmacies), anyone else who distributes prescription HGH is de facto guilty of violating the Act. The government is serious about protecting us from receiving HGH and steroids from other than approved distribution channels.

The purchase of these drugs from importers or "back alley" sources not only endangers your health by putting you at risk of receiving counterfeit or contaminated GHG, but it also jeopardizes your freedom by making you subject to imprisonment. Keep all of this in mind if you decide to start HGH or steroid therapy.
