In December of 2003, the FDA approved Zorbtive. This is Serono's recombinant human growth hormone. It was created for treatment of short bowel syndrome, which is a potentially fatal condition. The FDA Office of Orphan Products Development granted Zorbtive orphan drug status for patients with short bowel syndrome. Zorbtive is administered via injection.
